We all know there are two types of people in the world, the OPTIMISTIC & the PESSIMISTIC.
Where do you fall?
Living in the world of uncertainty ever since the pandemic Covid-19 strikes, it is hard for individuals, families and organizations to stay resilient.
Let’s revisit the Habit 1 & Habit 2 based on the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People principles by Dr Stephen R Covey.
Habit 1 – Be Proactive
Be Proactive is about taking responsibility for your life. In any situation, we have the choice of being reactive or proactive. They don’t blame genetics, circumstances, conditions, or conditioning for their behaviour. They know they choose their behaviour. On the other hand, reactive people, are often affected by their physical environment. Reactive people believe they are not responsible for what they say and do–they have no choice. They find external sources to blame for their behaviour.
If the weather is good, they feel good.
If it isn’t, it affects their attitude and performance, and they blame the weather.
Making an impact during Pandemic
During very trying times such as a pandemic, sensitivity can prevent us from finding a way out from the circumstances we find ourselves in. We can’t stop the world from changing ; we can, however, choose how we respond to the situation we find ourselves in – by focusing on our “Circle of Influence” : things that we can influence directly.
A proactive mindset helps us to utilize the options that lie in front of us and get the best results out of a challenging situation.
Habit 2 – Begin With The End in Mind
Begin With the End in Mind means to start with a clear understanding of your destination.
You need to know where you are going in order to better understand where you are now so that the steps you take are always in the right direction.
Making an impact during Pandemic
The current situation might cause some of us to worry that there doesn’t seem to be a light at the end of the tunnel. We were not prepared for this. Nevertheless, we can still envision how we want the end to look like. Some people have speculated that this pandemic may last until the end of the year.Given that, ask yourself this question – where would you want to be once this pandemic ends?
How would you like things to be?
By asking these questions, your vision becomes clearer. This way, we can consciously create the life that we want.
In conclusion,
No matter how competent a person is, he or she will not have sustained and lasting success unless they are able to effectively lead themselves, influence, engage and collaborate with others, and continually improve and renew their capabilities. HABITS are powerful forces in our lives as it help us lead our life in a truly effective way, in every situation. These elements are at the heart of personal, team, and organizational effectiveness.
“I am not a product of my circumstances. I am a product of my decisions.”
